Bernie Sanders accuser uses phony Beto funding account

A lively explosion of ridicule-worthy emails from Team Beto on Monday purported to show that wealthy progressives are bankrolling his insurgent Texas senate campaign in a desperate effort to take down incumbent Ted Cruz. When nearly every detail was checked, however, a letter was provided by one fundraiser on the beto.org email list, who verified that the money no longer exists.

“Thank you for being a supporter and I appreciate your donation,” read the email, referring to a designated PayPal account, in large letters. “After recent events including our e-mail to you, it has become abundantly clear that you want, and deserve, to know who is supporting our campaign.”

Another senatorial contender, Elizabeth Warren, had a problem when someone posing as her campaign manager tried to solicit funds from supporters under the name “Elizabeth Warren for Senate.” Warren is not one to reward rote fake-threats but the release of a seven-figure money trail has an easier way for violators to be held accountable: the personal finances of donors.
