Guinness World Records no longer recognizes the former title holder, Deji Adeyanju.
(CNN) — Nigerian rapper Davido has said he will give $600,000 to charity after one of his songs hit a record in terms of donations to charity online.
The song, “Adelekhiti,” was chosen as Nigerian singer Davido’s entry in the Guinness World Records in 2018 for raising the most amount of money at one time for a single cause.
The Nigerian government said the annual record is for the accumulation of money at one time through a big campaign.
Davido’s single prompted more than $500,000 to be collected by Africans worldwide through donations on the app, i-Give, which raised funds to benefit health, education and social care projects.
The money, collected from 13,000 people, will be distributed to healthcare providers through the No Cost Foundation through a partnership between Davido and Xiaobao Investment.
The contributions by Africans outside Nigeria helped raise more than $160,000 that will also help children’s school funds through the Solar Energy Foundation.
According to Davido, there were more than 17,000 people who participated in the initiative and more than 350,000 individuals around the world.
