The president of Ukraine says a group of Russians and Ukrainians planning a coup against him.
President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that a group led by a prominent Russian businessman in Ukraine is plotting a military coup against him, The Associated Press reported Monday. Zelensky said the coup could happen as early as Monday.
The Ukrainian president said the Russian businessmen led by Vadim Rabinovich who were planning a coup claim they have a mandate from Russian President Vladimir Putin. He claims their plan, backed by the Kremlin, is to dissolve Ukraine’s parliament, appoint a new parliament, and send a new government into battle to fight with government forces to establish a pro-Russia state.
Zelensky said the alleged coup will be supported by Russian soldiers in Ukraine. The Russian Federation army has sided with pro-Russian insurgents in eastern Ukraine.
“I can’t imagine what will happen when a Russian army exercises on our territory or when 300,000 or 500,000 Russians are positioned on our soil for any purpose,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky warned that Rabinovich and his group have an agenda that ends with “fascism and terrorist acts.”
